Anniversary and TGIF

I'm ready for it to be Friday. I feel like sleeping all weekend, but will be going riding tomorrow morning and then going to look at the building where my sister is having her wedding reception. I hope I can help come up with decorating ideas.

I had fun (with some frustration and help from hubby) creating a slide show set to music for a family reunion last weekend. I'll be creating a couple for the wedding. The Mac is pretty cool.

Yesterday was our nine year anniversary! Time does fly. We ate at PF Changs to celebrate. We had never been, but I kept hearing about how good it was. It was very yummy, but also very crowded.

Finally

I think this cold is finally over and last night I went horseback riding. Yipee! :)

Reading and X3

I hadn't read any books in quite a while and now I remember why. I can't stop until they are done. So I've read three in about a week. Two are by Laurie R. King -- Locked Rooms and The Art of Detection. Then I read The Virgin of Small Plains by Nancy Pickard. Good stuff.

I've had a hard time getting over this head cold and still haven't been riding. Hopefully sometime this week.

Oh, and I saw X-MEN 3 tonight. I was underwhelmed. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either.

Being sick sucks

I've had a head cold since Tuesday, so I haven't been riding at all this week. I doubt I'll feel up to it tomorrow, but maybe I will on Sunday.

Nielsen changes

This looks promising. I've never understood how the Nielsens could be accurate. Hopefully the changes will be an improvement.

Wakarusa

So I went to Wakarusa last night, sort of. Hubby wanted to see a band, Hurra Torpedo, that played at midnight. I wasn't excited about going, but decided to tag along. I'm glad I went. We didn't get there until 9:00 PM and got in free. The weather was good. The walking and standing got to me, so I'm glad we weren't there too long. I was going to try to catch Bela Fleck, but instead saw Hot Buttered Rum who played before Hurra Torpedo. They were very good and I could actually see the stage. Hurra Torpedo was quite entertaining. Not my kind of music, but the live show was definitely worth it.

Woohoo!

I just got my music working properly with iTunes on my new MacBook Pro. Now I'm happy.

It's HOT!

I had my horse lesson today. Not ten minutes into it both Gwyn and I were sweating up a storm. I didn't do any extra riding after my lesson. I figured we both needed a rest.

I get home and check the weather on wunderground. It says 85 degrees, heat index 88. Sheesh, it felt hotter than that. And it is only going to get worse. I hope we have some cool weather once in a while.

The lesson did go well. Gwyn and I seem to be getting along fine. Hopefully I will remember to take my camera one of these days.

Maine

My parents, siblings, and I visited Maine over Memorial weekend to bury my grandmother's ashes and to visit family. We got to Portland late Saturday night and drove to Skowhegan. The next morning we went to the service in Madison, where my grandfather was from. We stayed with my aunt and visited with family.

Monday we drove to Franklin to visit with my grandmother's side of the family and see some of the area she was from. It was a nice visit, but hotter than we expected in Maine. The bugs were crazy. On the way to Franklin, we drove through Skowhegan to get some pictures of the river and Empire Grill (from the book Empire Falls).

Tuesday we went to Mount Desert Island in part to visit Bar Harbor, which my grandmother often mentioned. We also drove up Cadillac Mountain and saw some of Acadia National Park.

It was a nice visit and we'd like to go back when we have more time to spend. Click here to view pictures of Maine.

A Horse and a Mac

I've been taking horse lessons for a while now and decided to lease a horse yesterday. I help pay for boarding in exchange for riding pretty much whenever I want. It is perfect for me; I want more time to ride but am not ready to own a horse yet. Her name is Gwyn. She is beautiful and very sweet.

Today I bought a MacBook Pro. I think I'm going to love it.

Nickel Creek

I saw Nickel Creek at the Voodoo Lounge (Harrah's) last night. They were great as always. I love their version of Britney Spears' Toxic. Who knew? And they don't want to play the lighthouse song, just get over it people.

I liked my seats - table 1 on upper level. It was almost like being in the front row without having to stand and fight the crowds. The sound was better than the Lawrence show, but it wasn't perfect. I could barely hear Sean sing. And the venue was way too smoky. I won't be going there often.

I was very impressed with the opening act, Ben Lee. I was not familiar with him before this. I loved his music and his personality (he's quite funny). And he's Australian. :)
